Camilo Mendoza , Baritone

Colombian born international dramatic baritone, Camilo Mendoza , is the new South American operatic discovery. Having recently won 1 st Place at the 10 th anniversary of the Festival “Opera al Parque” competition in Bogota , Colombia , the Baritone was awarded the role of Tonio in I Pagliacci with two very important opera companies in the US : the Opera Company of South Jersey & The New Opera Company of St. Louis . Mr. Mendoza will be working during the 2008 – 2009 season with Maestro Robert McFarland and his studio of artists.

The young Baritone continues to perform as a soloist with Opera de Colombia along with concert engagements at The Orquesta Filarmónica de Bogotá. Mr. Mendoza has astounded audiences in his frequent performances with the Jaime Manzur Foundation singing the most celebrated pages of the Spanish Lyric repertoire. Recently while singing the Zarzuela Luisa Fernanda , El Nuevo Siglo wrote, “while singing his romanzas, the audience begged the Baritone for an encore of his Morena Clara (the final Act) while Camilo Mendoza held the audience on the edge of their seats.”

Mr. Mendoza began his musical education studying the flute. In a very short time, his professors learned of his undeniable vocal talent establishing him as a soloist in performances of oratorio, opera and the zarzuela literature. Prior to his graduation, Camilo Mendoza was receiving accolades of support from all critics including Maestro William Crutchfield as he stated, “Camilo Mendoza has a full, sturdy baritone voice of considerable beauty and excellent carrying power.”
