Enrique Bernardo, international Peruvian tenor, whose talent is already jettisoned him to the forefront of the US opera world, is performing Cavarodossi in Tosca with the Opera Western Reserve Young Artist Program as well as performing the same role for the Main Stage Production during the 2011/2012 season.
The young tenor has performed the roles of Luigi in Il Tabarro; Alfredo in La Traviata; Nemorino in Elixir of Love; Count Almaviva in Barber of Seville; Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni; Don Basilio in Le Nozze di Figaro; and Mavre (Vassili) in Mavra. Having recently performed with Opera Western Reserve, Cleveland Inst. of Music Opera Theatre & Undercroft Opera, Erie Opera Theatre, Opera Theatre of Pittsburgh & Pittsburgh Opera, Enrique Bernardo performed the tenor soloist as well as being the conductor with the Latin-American Choir of Pittsburgh in “La Misa Criolla” by Ariel Ramirez.
2011 marks an important year for the up and coming tenor as he debuts with Opera Theatre of Pittsburgh as Don Basilio in their production of Le Nozze di Figaro. Since then he has taken part in the productions of Lost in the Stars by Kurt Weill & Die Fledermaus both with Opera Theatre of Pittsburgh. 2008 found Enrique Bernardo performing Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni with Duquesne Opera including the role of (Vassili) Mavra in the opera Mavra by Igor Stravinsky.
Trained originally as a pianist, highlighted performances include recitals at St. James at Piccadilly in London, England; several solo recitals throughout South Carolina including the Piccolo Spoleto Festival as well as appearances with the National Symphony Orchestra of Peru; the College of Charleston Chamber Orchestra; and the AUO "All University Orchestra" of Carnegie Mellon University.
Mr. Bernardo won first prizes in piano competitions such as the Steinway Concert Society of Western Pennsylvania, the Pittsburgh Concert Society, the Third Prize (special award) at the Varna International Piano Festival and Competition in Bulgaria, the Southeastern Community College Piano Competition, the SCMTNA Piano Competition, and the American Federation of Musicians for Charleston, South Carolina.
He holds degrees from Cleveland Institute of Music, Carnegie Mellon University, Duquesne University, College of Charleston and the National Conservatory of Lima, Peru.
