Nathan Whitson, Bass


Born and raised in Kansas, Nathan Whitson’s rich basso voice has taken him throughout the mid-west into national recognition. Most recently, he performed with the Kansas City Lyric Opera and for the past two seasons he has performed in numerous productions, including Hamlet, Aida, and The Barber of Seville. Recently, Mr. Whitson appeared as Mr. Olsen in Kurt Weil's Street Scene with the Kansas City Civic Opera. For the 2007- 2008 Season, Nathan Whitson is scheduled to appear with the Lyric Opera in The Pearl Fishers, as well as The Magic Flute.

Prior to joining the Lyric, Nathan Whitson, having studied under Armen Boyajian - world renowned vocal coach - pursued his studies in New York City. While in New York City, Nathan performed with several regional companies including Raylamore Opera, Astoria Opera, Ridge Light Opera, and the Amato Opera. 

Mr. Whitson’s career has taken him throughout the Midwest to such companies as the Ohio Light Opera in such operatic roles as  Kuppelweiser in Das Dreimaderlhaus and Scalza in Boccaccio. The bass voice of Nathan Whitson can be heard on recordings with the Albany Record label, which were created during his engagement with the Ohio Light Opera. Mr. Whitson has performed extensively with the Wichita State Opera appearing as Sarastro in Die Zauberflute, as Dr. Bartolo in the Marriage of Figaro, and Sir Roderic in Ruddigore. Among Wichitans Nathan is best known for his role as King Balthazar in Amahl and the Night Visitors in which he has appeared several times with Opera Kansas.

Nathan Whitson received his degree in vocal performance at Wichita State University during which time he established his foundation as a singer. With a background that includes musical theater and dance in addition to classical vocal training, Nathan has developed a commanding and versatile presence.
