Richard Nicosia, Spinto Tenor, is just basking in the success of his first Canio with Southern New Jersey’s newest opera company – Opera Seabrook and their first production – I Pagliacci. Having studied early on as a Countertenor with a short career of performance with Westminster Choir College and the Sessione Siena Musica Acadamia, Mr. Nicosia followed his natural talent while studying with Lourin Plant at Rowan University. In 2004, Richard made the decision to join “The Voice Studio” in Philadelphia under the instruction of international dramatic baritone Robert McFarland. Since then the spinto tenor has continued his development. During this time he performed the title role of Verdi’s Otello with The Atlantic Coast Opera Festival and recently completed his first Canio in I Pagliacci. He is currently preparing the roles of Dick Johnson in Fanciulla del West; Curley in Of Mice & Men; Florestan in Fidelio; Don Jose in Carmen; the title role in Peter Grimes; and Lensky in Eugene Onegin.
During Mr. Nicosia’s early study, while singing as a Countertenor, he performed at the famed Sessione Siena Musica Acadamia in the roles of Tolomeo in Giulio Cesare and the title role in Rinaldo. While at Rowan University, Richard continued his growth crossing over to the tenor range performing Franz in The Tales of Hoffmann; Monostatos in The Magic Flute; Remendado in Carmen; St. Brioche in The Merry Widow; the Sailor in Dido & Aneas; and Gherardo in Gianni Schicchi.
Richard Nicosia also performs the oratorio repertoire including Handel’s Messiah and Felix Mendelssohn’s Elijah. Mr. Nicosia resides with his wife Lauren in Bridgeton, New Jersey.
