Tenor, Robert Frankenberry , hailed by the New York Times as a “dynamic vocalist” and praised for his “magnificent” and “passion-drenched voice” (in the Edinburgh, Scotland and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania press), is a quickly rising versatile international Artist. Mr. Frankenberry recently completed performances including the premiere workshop of South African composer Phillip Miller's new multi-media opera, Venus , at MASSMoCA; Many Names in the premiere of Day Boy / Night Girl for After Dinner Opera Company; the Duke in Rigoletto for the Erie Opera Theater; and the premiere of The Painted Bed by George Lewis for the Guggenheim's Works and Process series. Upcoming projects include Don Jose in Carmen with the Edgewood Symphony; Carmina Burana with the Akron Symphony; workshops of Venus in Pittsburgh ( August Wilson Center ) and Capetown , South Africa ; and the title role in Faust with DaCorneto Opera. Robert Frankenberry's talen has encountered recent visibility with the operatic roles of Pollione in Norma , Cavaradossi in Tosca , Edgardo in Lucia , the title roles in Don Carlo and The Tales of Hoffmann ; Alfredo in La Traviata , and Nemorino in L'Elisir with such opera companies and orchestras as Pittsburgh Opera, Pittsburgh Symphony, Akron Symphony, Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble, Buffalo Philharmonic, Opera Theater of Pittsburgh, Da Corneto Opera, and the Pittsburgh Public Theater to name a few. On the non-operatic stage, Robert has performed such roles as Mozart in Amadeus , John Adams in 1776 , the Soldier in Kurt Vonnegut's adaptation of L'Histoire du Soldat , and the title character in Willy Wonka . No stranger to new works, Robert Frankenberry has premiered leading roles in works by Daron Hagen (Antonio, Chip, and Papa in the trilogy New York Stories ); Roger Zahab (Spirit Master in Uncovered by Night ); Jordan Wentworth Farrar (Many Names in Day Boy / Night Girl ); Jeremy Beck (John Biddle in The Biddle Boys and Mrs. Soffel ); Kieren MacMillan (Narcissus in Just Out of Reach ) and Seymour Barab (Madame Witch in Hansel and Gretel ). In November of 2006, Robert's appearance as Louis Sullivan in Daron Hagen's Shining Brow with the Buffalo Philharmonic was recorded and subsequently released on the Naxos label. Mr. Frankenberry can also be heard on the Albany label singing Eric Moe's cycle, & A Warm Hello from the Alien Ant Farm with the composer at the piano. As a proponent of art song and vocal chamber music, Robert appears regularly in New York for PRISM Projects, Tobenski-Algera Recital Series, and the Phoenix Concerts.
