Lyric Tenor Roderick George recently performed the role of Tamino in DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE with Union Avenue Opera in Saint Louis. His operatic repertoire also includes Rodolfo in LA BOHEME, Alfredo in LA TRAVIATA, Don Ottavio in DON GIOVANNI, Ferrando in COSÍ FAN TUTTE, Camille de Rosillion in THE MERRY WIDOW, the title role in ALBERT HERRING, Benedict in BEATRICE AND BENEDICT, Dr. Cajus in FALSTAFF, Ralph Rackstraw in HMS PINAFORE, the Duke of Dunstable in PATIENCE, Satyavan in SÀVITRI, and Aaron James in DIFFERENT FIELDS. On the concert stage, the tenor has performed Orff’s CARMINA BURANA, Mendelsohn’s ELIJAH, Bach’s MAGNIFICAT, Hadyn’s CREATION, Bruckner’s TE DEUM, Schubert’s MASS IN G and STABAT MATER, Honneger’s KING DAVID, Mozart’s MASS IN C and CORONATION MASS, Beethoven’s NINTH SYMPHONY, Dubois’ SEVEN LAST WORDS, and Handel’s MESSIAH and ISRAEL IN EGYPT. He made his European debut in a series of orchestral concerts at the American Institute of Musical Studies in Austria, including a benefit concert for Doctors without Borders with conductor Alexander Kalajdzic. In addition to his opera and concert career, he endeavors to preserve and expand the performance of the American Negro spiritual as a regular soloist with the acclaimed American Spiritual Ensemble under the direction of Everett McCorvey. In competition, he has been a regional finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, Southeastern Regional Finalist in the NATS Artist Awards, Chicago Regional Finalist in the San Francisco Opera Center Auditions, and a finalist in the National Society of Arts and Letters Voice Competition, Mobile Opera Rose Palmai-Tenser Competition, Florida Suncoast Opera Guild, and the 2005 Orpheus National Competition for Vocalist where he received the Giacomo Puccini Award. He completed a Doctor of Music degree at The Florida State University under the tutelage of Larry Gerber, and he was an apprentice artist with Des Moines Metro Opera and a Resident Artist with Amarillo Opera (TX). He has participated in master classes and coachings with Marilyn Horne, Gabriella Lechner, Stanford Olsen, Diana Soviero, Robert Larsen, Douglas Fisher, Roger Malouf, Richard Miller, Timothy Hoekman, and Clifton Ware. In addition to his performance schedule, he teaches voice at the University of Montevallo in Montevallo, Alabama. He will sing the role of Don Ottavio in DON GIOVANNI with Asheville Lyric Opera this fall.
